Bruning Announces State Will Oppose

New Trial for Lotter

(Lincoln, NE) Attorney General Jon Bruning today announced the state of Nebraska will oppose convicted murderer John Lotter’s motion for a new trial and his request for a new sentencing hearing. The Attorney General’s office reviewed the case when Lotter’s accomplice, Tom Nissen, changed his story regarding the 1993 deaths of Teena Brandon and two others.

“Twelve jurors found both men guilty of first degree murder, and the Supreme Court upheld their verdicts and sentences,” Bruning said. “We will do everything we can to uphold those sentences. What is most discouraging is the prolonged process for the families of the victims.”
