Bruning Provides Central Nebraska

Public Power and Irrigation District

$75,000 for Invasive Species Removal

(Ogallala, NE) Attorney General Jon Bruning today presented $75,000 to the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District (CNPPID) for invasive species removal at Lake McConaughy.

The money was made available through the Attorney General’s Environmental Court Ordered Settlement Fund, a fund generated from voluntary payments collected in court-approved settlements from entities that have violated state and federal environmental regulations.

“The health of Lake McConaughy is crucial to Nebraska’s economic strength,” Bruning said. “Non-native plants crowd natural plants and consume large amounts of water. Removing them means more water for Nebraskans.”

CNPPID and Nebraska Game and Parks have also pledged funding for the CNPPID invasive species removal project.

The CNPPID was created in 1933 to serve south-central Nebraska electrical power development and irrigation needs. The agency provides irrigation for over 223,000 acres along the Platte River.
